At the Amsterdam City Walk you can choose between six different routes: 10, 14, 17, 20, 26 or 33 km. There’s a route for everyone! Each route has its own atmosphere and distance. Whether you love culture, nature, the busy center or the green parks or whether you are an experienced hiker or not. There’s definitely a route that matches you!

For our foreign guests this Amsterdam City Walk is an unique opportunity to discover the city of Amsterdam in a sportive way. You will join the full Amsterdam experience, museums and bars will open their doors and offer entertainment specially for our participants.

10 km

The heart of the city and the canals
The 10 km start at Rembrandtplein, you connect directly to the 17 and 26 kilometer route. Via the famous Red Light District you walk successively along the Oudezijds Achterburgwal, Nieuwmarkt, Zeedijk and Oudekerksplein. Further through the lively center and via the Dam you reach the canal belt and the cozy Jordaan. Then you walk under the Rijksmuseum towards the Vondelpark and then you finish on Stadionplein near the Olympic Stadium.

14 km

Discover the Westerpark and the attractive centre
You start your walking day at Ven Amsterdam, near Station Sloterdijk. The renewed route takes you through the Gardens of the Westerpark. You walk through allotment parks Nut & Genoegen and Sloterdijkermeer. After the allotments you walk through Roos Schooltuin. From here you walk a new route through the Westerpark. You go under the Haarlemmerpoort towards the Oude Houthaven. Via the West Indisch Huis on Haarlemmerstraat, where most of the Silver Fleet captured by Piet Heyn was stored, you walk towards the Jordaan. From here the route continues past the Foodhallen and through the Vondelkerk. After the greenery of the Vondelpark, the route continues along Emmaplein, Valeriusplein and Olympiaplein to the finish on Stadionplein near the heroic Olympic Stadium.

17 km

The cozy centre and the most beautiful neighborhoods
You start at the Olympic Stadium and walk via De Pijp to a renewed part of the route between the Josef Israëlkade and the Sarphatipark past the Vredeskerk, across the Cornelis Troostplein and past the Oranjekerk. You continue the route to the Albert Cuypstraat. Then you walk along the Amstel with the Magere Brug and the famous Amstel Hotel, the Royal Theater Carré and the Hermitage. The route passes Rembrandtplein to continue its way through the historic centre of Amsterdam. After the stamp post at the Beurs van Berlage, the route continues over Dam Square towards the Jordaan.

20 km

Through the Amsterdamse Bos and along the Amstel into the city
An ideal route if you not only want to admire the center, but also want to discover the quiet side of Amsterdam. Not the standard highlights and attractions of Amsterdam, but the beautiful places outside the center. From the Olympic Stadium, this route goes towards the Amsterdamse Bos, past various parks and of course along the Amstel. The 20 km route passes through the Amstelkerk where the office of Stadsherstel Amsterdam is located. You then walk to and along the canals and at the Museumplein you join the participants of the other distances on your way to the finish at the Olympic Stadium.

26 km

Meet the bustling centre, the cozy neighborhoods and the maritime past
You start at the Olympic Stadium and walk through the working-class neighborhood De Pijp to a renovated part of the route between Josef Israëlkade and Sarphatipark past the Vredeskerk, across Cornelis Troostplein and past the Oranjekerk. Along the water of the Amstel with the Magere Brug and the famous Amstel Hotel, the Royal Theater Carré and the Hermitage. At the Magere Brug you cross the Amstel in the direction of Rembrandtplein.

You then walk a renewed route via the Halvemaans Bridge past the Zuiderkerk, the Stopera, the Hermitage, the Hoftuin, the National Holocaust Names Monument, the Hortus Botanicus, through the Wertheimpark, the Muiderpoort and the Oosterpark. Along the Tropenmuseum, the Dappermarkt, Werf 't Kromhout and through the Oosterkerk. Via the Oosterdok you walk through the cozy center of Amsterdam over the Dam, along the canals and through the Vondelpark to the finish at the Olympic Stadium.

33 km

City bustle and the tranquility of all the greenery in and around Amsterdam
With 33 km, this route offers just that little bit extra for the avid hikers among us. This distance also starts and finishes at the Olympic Stadium, but from the stadium you first walk to the Amsterdamse Bos and along the Bosbaan - the internationally renowned rowing course in the forest. Via the Kalfjeslaan the route then goes to the Amstel. Over the Utrechtsebrug to the other side of the Amstel with beautiful views towards the Amstel Hotel. At the Magere Brug you cross the Amstel towards Rembrandtplein.

From here you continue the same route as the participants of the 26 km. This means that via the Halvemaans Bridge you follow a new route along the Zuiderkerk, the Stopera, the Hermitage, the Hoftuin, the National Holocaust Names Monument, the Hortus Botanicus, through the Wertheimpark, the Muiderpoort and the Oosterpark. Along the Tropenmuseum, the Dappermarkt, Werf 't Kromhout and through the Oosterkerk. Via the Oosterdok you walk through the cozy center of Amsterdam over the Dam, along the canals and through the Vondelpark to the finish at the Olympic Stadium.
 
Walking safe
During our events, we as an organization want to create the safest possible road situation for participants and other road users. That’s why it’s important to all show the walking behavior. We ask you to walk on the right as much as possible during our events. This allows us to avoid ambiguity on routes that aren’t completely closed to walkers. Please note! Dogs are only allowed on a leash.
